The NSW Government has assisted local councils to develop Regional Economic Development Strategies (REDS) based on the concept of a Functional Economic Region (FER), which has incorporated the Local Government Areas of Carrathool Shire Council, Griffith City Council, Leeton Shire Council, Murrumbidgee Council, and Narrandera Shire Council. The Centre for Economic and Regional Development has led this work and managed a panel of expert contractors to collaborate with councils and local stakeholders on their REDS. The Riverina Murray Destination Management Plan 2018 is the key strategic document to drive and promote growth in the region’s tourism industry. The DMP identifies strategic development themes, priority projects and infrastructure that will encourage both private and public-sector investment in the tourism sector and stimulate increased visitation to the region.
