Free Escape the Drought events for the whole community
Murrumbidgee Council Mayor Ruth McRae has invited the whole community to join together for special free ‘Escape the Drought’ events in Coleambally, Darlington Point and Jerilderie.
Jerilderie: 29 November 2019, Jerilderie Civic Hall, 12 pm – 5 pm
Darlington Point: 5 December 2019, Darlington Point Sports Club, 12 pm – 5 pm
Coleambally: 6 December 2019, Coleambally Community Hall, 12 pm - 5 pm
Cr McRae said the events will focus on bringing the community together to make sure we all have the skills, knowledge and motivation to face the future challenges of the drought.
“Our community is really doing it tough at the moment, but we want to make sure everyone is aware of the services and support that are available to them. The events are for the entire community as everyone has been impacted by the drought.
“These events will be a great chance to hear from the experts about what’s out there.
“It will also be a day to de-stress a little with some free pampering from beauticians, hairdressers and massage therapists
“Most importantly, it will be chance to catch up with friends and family, eat and drink, and share a few stories,” Cr McRae said.
Guest speakers include representatives from Active Farmers, a wellness/dietitian coach, education experts (looking at getting back into the workforce, retiring and other options), Rural Investment Corporation (low interest Drought loans and Farm Investment loans) and your Local Rural Financial Counsellor.
People will be able to spend the day there or just drop in for short while.
The events are being organised by Council's Drought Support Officer, Samantha Star. Anyone who would like further information or would like to be involved can contact Samantha on 0400 321 016.
The initiative is funded through the Australian Government's Drought Communities Programme.
