Australia Day

Murrumbidgee Council proudly celebrates Australia Day, with celebrations held at each of the three towns.

Each year the Australia Day Council invites Local Government to participate in Australia Day activities.

It particularly encourages Councils to participate in the Citizenship Awards, which are offered by the Australia Day Council for the purpose of recognising outstanding contributions to the local community.

Murrumbidgee Council participates in the presentation of Citizenship Awards and our hard working Australia Day Committees provide community celebrations with Coleambally, Darlington Point and Jerilderie, each hosting individual Award Ceremonies.

The communities of Darlington Point and Coleambally welcomed the Murrumbidgee Council 2018 Australia Day Ambassador Prue Watt, OAM, a determined and outstanding young woman, who has an impressive career as a Paralympian.   Prue has represented Australia at four Paralympics from 2004 to 2016.  Prue was recognised with an Order of Australia Medal in 2014.
