Message from the Mayor - Christmas 2019
Message from Murrumbidgee Council Mayor, Cr Ruth McRae
Without a doubt the best Christmas present would be a good drenching of rain and an end to the drought! It would be a superb end to 2019.
This year has been one of many challenges as the ongoing drought, as well as reduced water allocations, has had far-reaching effects throughout our community.
It is a remarkable reflection on our resilience and strength that we, as a community, have remained positive and strong.
As a Council, we have been extremely conscious of the hardship our community is facing. We have implemented initiatives to alleviate this such as the Rates Hardship Policy and free entry to all Council pools.
On the bright side, the year has also had many positives with government funding facilitating a vast array of projects throughout our Council area. Many of these have begun this year, such as road works and footpath improvements, with others set to get underway in 2020.
The coming year will be an exciting time for us all with an unprecedented level of development and improvements.
Throughout 2019, our Council has hosted a number of free community events that have been highly successful. We will be holding more events next year as they are a wonderful way of bringing the community together and lifting our spirits.
In closing, I urge you all to look out for yourself and others and never be afraid to ask for help.
My very best wishes for Christmas and the New Year. I hope it will be a wonderful time for you, where you can relax and enjoy time with family and friends.
