Volunteering with council
Volunteers are always welcome to join council committees and it's an excellent way to get involved in your community.
There are opportunities available in each of our towns, and you will be warmly welcomed by the other members. These committees are referred to as "Section 355 Committees" under the Local Government Act, and each of them has representation from at least one councillor.
Below is a list of the Section 355 Committees:
- Coleambally Australia Day Committee
- Jerilderie Australia Day Committee
- Coleambally Townlife Committee
- Darlington Point Townlife/Australia Day Committee
- Heritage Darlington Point Balmeringa Management Committee
- Central Coree Sports Complex Management Committee
- Yamma Recreation Reserve Management Committee
- Jerilderie Tidy Towns Committee
Contact us if you are interested in joining any of these committees.
You may also like to consider being part of a local community organisation. They will welcome you with open arms!

Volunteer as a senior leader – Portsea Camp - January each year
We call for expressions of interest each August for senior leaders (18 years and over) to volunteer to support children on the bus to and from the Portsea Camp. The children are aged between 8 and 12 years. They come from across our council area, which includes Coleambally, Darlington Point and Jerilderie.
As a senior leader, you will:
- Support and supervise children on the bus - aged 8 to 12 from Coleambally, Darlington Point and Jerilderie.
- Travel with the group by bus to and from camp
- Help create a safe, fun and memorable experience for every child
There is no cost to leaders – accommodation, meals and travel are provided.
It’s a fantastic opportunity to make a real difference and gain valuable experience for your resume.
