The Yanko Historic Store Open Day
Please find attached an invitation to the Opening of the recently restored Old Store at The Yanko, situated 25 kms north of Jerilderie.
Join us on Monday 21 October , to celebrate the restoration of the Old Store and installation of interpretative displays.
The solid two-story brick store was constructed in the 1870s to a high standard and included all the facilities needed for the daily operations of Yanko station. This included a shop supplying non-perishable goods, a post office, bookkeeper’s office, livery, gaol and later a telephone exchange.
This two-phase project involved restoration of the Old Store through drainage improvements, repair of brick work, external painting of doors and windows and replacing the roof. Phase two developed an interpretation and display area for visitors in three of the Old Store rooms and an education package for school groups.
The Open day runs from 10.00am to 12.30pm and includes entry to interpretation rooms, morning tea and opportunity to learn about the history of Yanko Station.
