Ward-based Election for Murrumbidgee Council

As Murrumbidgee Council prepares to welcome its first elected Councillors in September, residents are being reminded that this will be a ward-based election.

Those wishing to put their hand up for this election only have a few days to do so, as nominations close at 12 noon this Wednesday 9 August.

General Manager Craig Moffitt is urging residents to get in early.

“If you are thinking about nominating please don’t leave it to the last minute,” he said.

“We would love to see a good cross-section of our community represented.

“You only have a couple of days left to register with the Returning Officer.”

The election will see nine Councillors appointed to the new Council, three Councillors from each of the three wards of Murrumbidgee, Murrumbidgee East and Jerilderie.

You will need to know the Ward you are registered in, as it will affect the location where you will be able to vote and the candidates you can vote for.

You can check which Ward you are registered in by going to the NSW Electoral Commission Website. You can enter your name and address and the website will confirm whether you are enrolled and in which ward you are enrolled.

Murrumbidgee Council Returning Officer Jan Mitchell, who has been appointed by the NSW Electoral Commission, is based at the Darlington Point CWA Hall located at McAlister St, Darlington Point. Contact 02 59012850.
