Funds available for groups in Murrumbidgee Council Area
10 January, 2017 - MEDIA RELEASEFUNDS AVAILABLE FOR GROUPS IN MURRUMBIDGEE COUNCIL AREA TO BUILD A BETTER REGION
Not-for-profit organisations hoping to get worthwhile community projects off the ground in the Murrumbidgee Council area are being urged to contact Council.
In November last year the Australian Government announced the release of the guidelines for the new Building Better Regions Fund (BBRF).
The BBRF will invest $297.7 million over four years in infrastructure projects and community investments for projects with a regional benefit.
Murrumbidgee Council, Economic, Tourism and Community Development Manager Gerrie Carr-Macfie, said the Building Better Regions Fund was a wonderful opportunity for the region and she urged local groups to contact her to find out more. An information session on the program is being held in Jerilderie on January 24.
“The program provides funding for both infrastructure projects and community investment that will create jobs, drive economic growth and build stronger regional communities,” Ms Carr-Macfie said.
Local Government and Not for Profit organisations can lodge an on-line application for project funding through the first round of the BBRF that opens on 18 January 2017.
“It is important that applications indicate focus on the community benefits that will make a difference to local communities and to the region,” Ms Carr-Macfie said.
Grants are available through two funding streams; Infrastructure Projects and Community Investments.
Infrastructure Projects Stream will support projects which involve the construction of new infrastructure, or the upgrade or extension of existing infrastructure that provide economic and social benefits to regional and remote areas.
The Community Investments Stream will fund community building activities including, but not limited to, new or expanded local events, strategic regional plans, and leadership and capability building activities.
Applications close for the Infrastructure Projects Stream on 28 February and the Community Investments Stream on 31 March.
Interested applicants in the Murrumbidgee Council area are encouraged to contact Ms Carr-Macfie on 03 58861200.
