Council’s submission to the ALTERNATIVE proposal for a full merger of Jerilderie Shire with Murrumbidgee Shire has been lodged.
Now it is business as usual after 3 months of almost complete concentration on the merger proposals.
We cannot express enough our thanks to our community for the way in which they have supported Council through this most challenging process. There were times when the community’s drive was remarkable, and inspired us to work even harder for the best outcome.
Thank you to Karen and Sadie for organising the submission writing workshops. These were a wonderful benefit to the community, and got everyone’s creative processes happening. Thank you to everyone who lodged submissions, attended and spoke at Public Inquiries (including a trip to Darlington Point on one occasion), closed their businesses in support of our community, organised and marched both in protest and then in support of our proposals, and the list goes on.
We are extremely grateful to the Councillors and staff for their support throughout this process, working tirelessly to ensure that we have done all possible to achieve the best outcome for our ratepayers and residents.
It is now a waiting game until the NSW Government makes an announcement as to the result of their deliberations and following consultation with Delegate Mr Tim Stubbs, commissioned to attend the Public Inquiries and report back to the Government on the submissions received. We anticipate a statement on the future of Jerilderie Shire Council will be made mid-year.

Alternative Merger Proposal to be Considered by NSW Government
Jerilderie Shire Council has welcomed news from the NSW Government that it will now formally consider our Council’s ALTERNATIVE proposal for all of Jerilderie Shire to merge with Murrumbidgee Shire.
This is wonderful news for our community, and we believe this ALTERNATIVE proposal will create a stronger, more viable and lasting future for Jerilderie, Darlington Point and Coleambally. We assert that merging wholly with Murrumbidgee Shire shows increased scale and capacity, an absence of staff disruption, increased savings, and support for each of the three communities that will make up the new merged Council.
It is important that all members of our community have a say in the public process of analysis and examination of this ALTERNATIVE merger proposal. The community’s level of involvement needs to be repeated to ensure there is strong support for this new merger proposal. Please click the following link to view the ALTERNATIVE merger proposal.
