WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS SERVICE?

Persons living in the community who, in the absence of basic maintenance and support services, are at risk of premature or inappropriate long term residential care, including:

  • Older and frail people
  • Younger people with a disability
  • Carers of these people

 

WHAT DOES THIS SERVICE OFFER?

Level One - up to $7500 in Total Value

Grab rails, and hand-held showers

Ramps, access rails, widening/lengthening of steps

Replace bath with shower recess, remove shower hob

Relocate toilet, hand basin

Adjust hot water temperature

Make cords and rugs safe for walking

Raise chair and bed height

Plumbing repairs - taps, cisterns, leaks and block ages

Carpentry repairs - windows, doors, floors

General home maintenance - gutters, fences, gates, paths, and rubbish

Roofing repairs - tiles, iron and flashings repair

Minor electrical repairs - repair/replace power points, install sensor lights, fuses and stove elements

Lawn maintenance and yard cleanup

 

WHAT DOES THE SERVICE COST?

The client is asked to contribute towards the cost of the service. The costs differ between Home Modifications and Home Maintenance, and all costs are assessed individually. It must be understood that this is not a free service. However if the client is experiencing financial difficulty, they are encouraged to contact the coordinator on (02) 6960 5500.

WHO CAN BENEFIT FROM THIS SERVICE?

The Berrigan & District Home & Community Support Services provide support to older people and their carers to live independently at home and be part of the community.

You may be eligible to receive assistance from the Home Support service if you are:

  • An older person aged 65 or over and having difficulties managing in your own home (or over 55 if you are an Aboriginal person).
  • A carer providing help to an older person aged 65 or over.
WHAT DOES THIS SERVICE OFFER?

Home Maintenance
  • Clean gutters, down pipes
  • Clean ceiling fans
  • Clean windows and fly screens
  • Exterior house cleaning
  • Minor air conditioner maintenance
  • Install smoke detectors and replace batteries
  • Change light globes
  • Removal of rubbish
Repairs
  • Repair leaking taps
  • Fix door handles and catches
  • Repair broken ramps, steps and rails
  • Minor gate repairs
  • Fix window security latches and locks
  • Clear blocked sinks
Garden Maintenance
  • Cut low tree branches where obstructing entrances or pathways
  • Clean cement paths and steps if hazardous
  • Mow lawns to ensure safe access to the home
Other Minor Home Modifications
  • Remove glass shower doors and fit curtain rails
  • Fit hand held showers
  • Raise chair and beds
  • Install battery operated door bells
  • Install weather strips
  • Install grab rails
  • Install safety hinges
  • Alter steps
  • Make and install ramps and rails according to occupational therapist recommendations
  • Install personal alarm
  • Any other home and property maintenance or modifications tasks that are recommended by an occupational therapist or;
  • Any other home and property maintenance that meets CHSP criteria
WHAT DOES THE SERVICE COST?

The Home Support Service has been made possible through funding provided by the Australian Government under the Commonwealth HSP and auspice by the Berrigan & District Aged Care Association.

All clients are asked to pay a contribution for each service.
